Step 6. Once you’ve set your plan, you’re ready to get started.
Embedding SunSmart hat-wearing into the school culture so that it becomes ‘just what everyone does’ can take time and effort. A clear and consistent approach across the whole school community will give your school the best chance of success.
- Establish simple rules: For example, ensuring students and teachers always wears SunSmart hats outside. Students without a SunSmart hat need to play in the shade.
- Clearly communicate the rules: For example, display Trigger posters around the school and share SunSmart communications with parents or carers.
- Consistently apply the rules: For example, regularly remind teachers at staff meetings of the importance of wearing a hat too.
